My Mother’s day gift

May 07 2010

I thought this was the perfect forum to share this funny story on a Friday evening after a long week of work/school.

So I recieved my Mother’s Day gift from my son and b/f becuase b/f is going away to Vegas tomorrow and won’t be here on Sunday.  I got a fancy blender with a spigot designed specifically for crushing ice and making smoothies, etc.  Of course, the intention is to make “boozy drinks” as b/f calls them.  Naturally, I had one for dinner (not the actual DINNER, of course…David…).

Apparently my family thinks I’m an alcoholic too?!?!  :-)

Greetings from Net-Zilla

May 03 2010

Just a note to everyone that my new email is dshortt@net-zilla.com. I noticed I’m still getting email at the old one and I’m not checking it as often.

Gotta love WordPress. Spread the word Brother.

Twitter

Apr 19 2010

In class this morning I heard someone mention Twitter.

I’m not sure if anyone besides me is using Twitter, but just in case you are, I thought Id start somewhere where we could share our Twitter ID’s. I’ll go first.

I am @vanmacguy .

Cheers,

David.

Office 2007

Apr 16 2010

I’m posting this as it’s been a subject of a lot of email.

As students, we qualify for discounts on software. Each software manufacturer discounts different products in different ways, so this unfortunately isn’t an  across the board thing.

But Microsoft (I don’t like even typing that name/word, whatever) does give deep discounts on their software, namely Office 2007.

But first, you need to qualify. As students of Douglas College, we do qualify but you have to get approved.

To start the process, you go to this link: http://www.microsoft.com/student/discounts/theultimatesteal-ca/default.aspx. Hover your mouse over the “Am I eligible” link on the left and click on “Full Terms and Conditions” then click on the “validation process” link.

From there you’ll have to fill out some details and then you’ll have to scan your Douglas College student ID card and upload it.

Theoretically, it will take up to two weeks for them to let you know that you qualify and then you can order it. You order it online and download it. It only costs $64.00 as opposed to $395 on Amazon.com so it’s worth the hassles.

In my case, I applied almost three weeks ago and called them having received nothing to be told that I wasn’t in the system. So I would call them first and give them your details first. Their number is 1-888-922-1864 and they’ll ask you the same questions as on the web site.

Good luck.

To add a post…

Apr 16 2010

You need to log in. And then go to the Site Admin link.

Once there, you’ll see something at the top of the screen that says New Post. Click that, write your post and then click Submit for Review.

I’ll just be approving everything so there won’t be a review.

Have fun.

A place for information

Feb 15 2010

If you’re interested in participating in this forum/blog/site, you need to register (we don’t want just anyone on here after all) and then you can post stuff, update posts, comment on posts or just read stuff.

To register, see the box at the bottom of the page, click on Register, give yourself a username and supply your email address, it approves all SE people and will send your password back to you in a few minutes. Log on then and change your password as the passwords it creates are rather cryptic.

Registering will allow you to create posts, whereas if you don’t register you can only reply to posts that others create.

The reason for this site’s existence is to keep any information we might find useful in one place.

Obviously don’t put anything super personal in here, or anything where security is of a concern.

I hope we all find this useful.
